Earl Bamber led an EBM Giga Racing one-three in first practice at Sepang this morning ahead of this weekend’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS season opener.
The Kiwi, who shares EBM’s Porsche with Adrian D’Silva, set a best of 2m06.039s early in the 60-minute session to lower Thursday’s testing benchmark by 0.3s and beat Nick Foster by seven tenths.
Triple Eight JMR’s #99 Mercedes-AMG prevented EBM from locking out the top two places with five minutes remaining, while Reid Harker completed the Antipodean love-in less than 0.2s further back in the second Porsche.
Home favourite Jazeman Jaafar was next up in Triple Eight JMR’s other Mercedes-AMG, albeit 1.2s behind Bamber, before X Works’ Audis – driven by Shaun Thong and Sandy Stuvik, respectively – rounded out the top-six.
The Silver class-entered Yogibo Racing Ferrari finished a surprising seventh, while Ben Porter set the AMAC Porsche’s PB on his final flying lap.
Official Practice and the 30-minute Bronze Test that accompanies it begins at 15:30 MYT (GMT +7).
