VSR’s Frederik Schandorff beat Andre Heimgartner by 0.001s to top a rain-affected second practice at Buriram this afternoon.
Rain fell throughout a 45-minute session that was twice red flagged due to minor incidents. However, they were small mistakes given the difficulty of the conditions which improved slightly as the clock ticked towards zero.
That helped Schandorff to set the fastest time on his final tour – 1m48.758s – and, in the process, beat HubAuto’s Ferrari by the smallest margin possible.
Yuan Bo also jumped up the order on his final run to leave Absolute Racing’s #912 Porsche third, albeit seven tenths behind the top-two. Those late improvements also demoted ABSSA Racing’s McLaren to fourth after Keita Sawa had led before the final red flag period.
Indigo Racing’s Mercedes-AMG was once again in the mix courtesy of MG Choi’s late effort, while TSRT’s Audi meant six manufacturers occupied the first half-dozen positions at the chequered flag.
Normal service resumed in GT4 where BMW Team Studie’s M4 shared by Takayuki Kinoshita and Sunako Jukuchou topped the class. However. Only 0.3s separated the Japanese combo from Ringo Chong’s Team iRace.Win Mercedes-AMG, which beat TTR’s Tony Fong and Brian Lee into second.
Official practice, qualifying and the weekend’s opening race all take place on Saturday. Watch them live here on the championship’s website.
