> Team Studie again top T4’s times
> Result: Yeongam FP2
Two blistering laps from Shane van Gisbergen helped Triple Eight and Johor Racing’s Mercedes-AMG finish 0.9s faster than anyone else in FP2 at Yeongam this afternoon.
The Kiwi saved his best of 2m08.425s until the final five minutes of the 45-minute session after first taking top spot one lap earlier.
That was almost a second faster than home favourites MG Choi and Solite Indigo Racing who once again finished second at a circuit they know well. Choi also jumped towards the top in the final moments but, like everyone else, was unable to trouble Van Gisbergen’s time.
HubAuto Corsa’s Ferrari driven by Marcos Gomes, who’d been fastest before the Van Gisbergen show began, slipped to third in the final reckoning after finishing just 0.021s behind Choi, while FP1 pace-setter Maxi Goetz completed the top-four in his Craft-Bamboo Mercedes-AMG.
Chris van der Drift ensured JRM finished fastest of the Porsche contingent in fifth, while Franky Cheng’s Absolute Racing Audi once again featured in the top-six.
However, championship leaders Tanart Sathienthirakul and Philip Hamprecht again failed to make an impression after finishing 14th overall.
Elsewhere, Team Studie and Sunako Jukuchou maintained their perfect start by setting the session’s fastest time after only five minutes. Just like Van Gisbergen, they were 0.9s clear of Team iRace.Win’s #199 Mercedes-AMG which again finished ahead of thee sister car.
Craft-Bamboo’s Mercedes-AMG completed the top-three.
Tomorrow’s final practice session takes place at 08:30 KST before qualifying begins at 10:50. Watch the latter as well as Race 1 live on Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia’s website and social media channels.
