YZ Racing with BMW M Team Studie had the honour of topping SRO's first-ever standalone GT4 session in Asia following a damp start to Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS's penultimate round at Okayama.

Rain hadn't fallen since earlier in the morning but overhead conditions remained misty and cloudy throughout. However, the track did improve significantly over the course of the hour, which ensured the fastest time was recored on the final lap.

An early effort from Ryohei Sakaguchi stood unbeaten for much of the session after Akiland's Toyota pushed TGR Indonesia's Supra down to second place. However, the 1m48s would ultimately be smashed by championship leader Max Orido who lowered the benchmark five times and by six seconds en route to 1m42.602s.

Sakaguchi responded on his final effort to end up 0.335s adrift, while TGR Indonesia's Supra completed the top-three courtesy of Seita Nonaka.

Two cars - CREF Motor Sport's McLaren (which spent Thursday's second test session battling a fuel issue) and D'station's Aston Martin - failed to set times.

Friday's second GT4 practice session begins at 13:45 JST.
