FAW Audi Sport Asia Racing Team has topped Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS's first official session of the season at Sepang after Franky Cheng beat Jordan Love by 0.101s.
The Chinese team's R8, which is overseen by Phantom Global Racing, lapped in 2m02.971s - a second quicker than yesterday's testing benchmark set by the Absolute Corse's Ferrari - just before the halfway mark of an hour-long session.
Tanart Sathienthirakul recorded the first serious time and remained out front for 15 minutes until Love (Triple Eight JMR Mercedes-AMG) almost dipped below 2m03s.
But his table-topping effort was soon beaten by Cheng whose time went untroubled thereafter.
Ralf Aron, who is deputising for Jules Gounon in Climax Racing's Mercedes-AMG, finished four tenths down on Cheng's time in third but 0.2s clear of Alessio Picariello who shares Absolute Racing's Porsche with reigning champion Anthony Liu.
Phantom's 911 driven by Joel Eriksson finished fifth, while Tsubasa Kondo's Porsche Center Okazaki entry topped the Silver-Am class in sixth overall.
Further back, the Spirit of FF Racing's Audi set the Am pace courtesy of Hiroshi Hamaguchi.
Practice 2 begins at 15:30 local time before merging into the Bronze Test at 16:40.
