Fanatec GT Asia FP1: Winkelhock fastest for Absolute and Audi

> Result: Official Practice 1

Markus Winkelhock led a top 20 covered by little more than one second in the first official Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS practice session at Okayama today.

The Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute entry he shares with Huang Ruo Han set a best of 1m29.777s to dislodge the Phantom Pro Racing Porsche - shared by new pairing Xie An and Dorian Boccolacci this weekend - just after the hour-long session's halfway mark.

Yu Kanamaru and Team 5ZIGEN's Nissan completed the top three just 0.067s further back.

Drivers were treated to some of the hottest temperatures of the year at a blistering Okayama. But Winkelhock kept his cool to lead the 31-car field by 0.3s.

Boccolacci was also impressive on his first Fanatec GT Asia appearance, although his prior experience of the 911 undoubtedly stood him in good stead.

Another Porsche, this time of Origine's Silver-Am championship leaders Bob Yuan and Leo Ye Hongli, finished fourth, while the first of the Mercedes-AMGs rounded out the top five thanks to Ralf Aron and Climax.

Two VSR Lamborghinis were next up - Edoardo Liberati leading Yuki Nemoto - before Harmony Racing's Silver class-topping Ferrari made it six different manufacturers inside the first eight places.

Further back, AMAC's Porsche led the Am category courtesy of Ben Porter.

Friday's second Fanatec GT Asia practice session begins at 15:55 JST.
