Mandalika: Evans beats Kondo to Pre-Qualifying top spot

> Result: Pre-Qualifying

Jaxon Evans topped the times in Pre-Qualifying at Mandalika by beating Tsubasa Kondo by 0.2s.

The New Zealander’s Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom entry lapped a faction slower than Free Practice pace-setter Jesse Krohn en route to a 1m28.708s 13 minutes from the hour-long session’s conclusion. But that was still sufficient to lead a top 17 separated by less than one second.

Kondo and NK Racing co-driver Kiyoshi Uchiyama top the Silver-Am standings following their best-ever GT World Asia at Sepang’s season opener and was quick again in final practice. Indeed, the Porsche led from half-distance until Evans lowered the session benchmark.

Climax Racing’s Mercedes-AMG driven by Elias Seppanen and last year’s Mandalika winner Alessio Picariello (Origine Porsche) set identical times in third and fourth. Both were just 0.017s slower than Evans.

Remarkably, positions five and six were also tied to the nearest thousandth with Krohn (Team KRC BMW) and FAW Audi Sport Asia’s Yu Kuai – who topped the Silver class – locked together a further 0.038s back.

AMAC’s Ben Porter set the fastest Am class time.

The action continues in Indonesia on Saturday morning with two 15-minute qualifying sessions before the first of this weekend’s 60-minute races begins at 13:30 local time (+8 GMT). Watch it live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and app.
