Eight manufacturers, 18 cars and some of the world’s top sportscar drivers will contest the annual FIA GT World Cup at the 73rd Macau Grand Prix on November 19-22.
Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG Porsche and reigning champions Ferrari all feature, along with previous winners Maro Engel, Raffaele Marciello and Augusto Farfus.
Newly crowned DTM champion Thomas Preining is also on duty along with former FIA WEC and IMSA title winner Earl Bamber who makes a surprise switch to Audi for the first time.
Home favourite Yifei Ye leads the line for Ferrari alongside another works driver, Alessio Rovera, while Laurin Heinrich reprises his Suzuka 1000km-winning partnership with ‘Rexy’, AO, Absolute and Porsche.
Three more 911s are split between Preining, Dorian Boccolacci and former Macau podium finisher Alessio Picariello.
DTM stablemates Engel and Lucas Auer are joined in Mercedes-AMG’s armada by local Silver-graded racer Adderley Fong. He’ll battle for class honours against FIA GT World Cup debutant Jamie Day who’s joined at Comtoyou Racing by Aston Martin factory ace Marco Sørensen.
Optimum returns for its second Macau outing with Benjamin Goethe, Luca Engstler drives the sole Lamborghini, and there’s a second Audi for Joel Eriksson whose pace with Phantom Global went largely unnoticed last season.
Coverage of the FIA GT World Cup will be streamed live and free of charge via the FIA’s official YouTube channel, while the event is one of four FIA-sanctioned competitions taking place during the 73rd Macau Grand Prix week along with the FIA FR World Cup, the FIA FR World Cup and the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour.
The event also features several regional races, including the Greater Bay Area GT Cup for GT4 cars that will decide this year’s SRO GT Cup champions.
“As GT3 celebrates its 20th anniversary, the FIA GT World Cup remains the category's ultimate showcase with eight manufacturers participating,” said FIA GT Commission President Lutz Leif Linden. “The Macau Grand Prix occupies a unique place on the global motor sport calendar, combining one of the world's most demanding circuits with a strong presence in a region that is hugely important for premium manufacturers and their iconic GT models. The strength of this year's entry underlines both the success of the GT3 platform and the enduring appeal of competing for FIA World Cup honours on the streets of Macau, an event that year after year attracts a stellar line-up of drivers from the worlds of GT and endurance racing for a truly unique GT3 sprint contest.”
