Two fast laps in quick succession helped Akash Nandy top Shanghai's Official Practice session on Friday morning.
The Malaysian - who is driving Absolute Racing's Lamborghini solo at the GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS season finale - followed up his testing benchmark with a 2m00.715s to beat Climax Racing's Elias Seppanen by a comfortable three tenths.
Just 0.014s separated Nandy's first and second fastest times, which he set on consecutive laps at the start of the session. However, both were seven tenths down than the same combination managed in the morning's test.
Nevertheless, that was still more than sufficient to beat the Climax Mercedes-AMG and championship leader Lu Wei's co-driver Laurin Heinrich who steps back into Origine's Porsche this weekend.
Seppanen's Silver-Am title rival Alex Liang took Craft-Bamboo's Mercedes-AMG to the fourth fastest time, while the class leading GTO with KRC BMW completed the top five in Maxime Oosten's hands.
Debutant Tim Tramnitz finished sixth in the team's sister M4.
