Back to black: BMW Team Studie reveals M4 GT3 livery for Fanatec Japan Cup

22 February 2022

BMW Team Studie has unveiled its livery for this year’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS campaign.

The outfit’s new M4 GT3 shared by Pro-Am duo Seiji Ara and Tomohide Yamaguchi will contest the championship’s four Fanatec Japan Cup events held at Suzuka, Fuji, Sugo and Okayama.

The predominantly black livery is a significant departure from Team Studie’s most recent Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Poqwered by AWS design, which adorned its 2019 GT4 title-winning M4. Instead, the colour scheme and Plus branding echoes its most recent Super GT entries with BMW’s previous generation M6 GT3.

Ara, who famously became Japan’s first-ever Le Mans 24 Hours winner in 2004, also made several Asia outings with D’Station Racing in 2017 and ’18 before joining Studie’s Super GT programme with Yamaguchi two years ago.

The Pro-Am pairing is one of several already confirmed for SRO Motorsports Group’s new ‘Fanatec Japan Cup’, which unites the country’s four Asia rounds. D’Station, ABSSA and CarGuy have also committed entries, while another Japanese outfit – Yogibo Racing – is contesting all six events.

Sepang and Mandalika bookend the wider pan-continental campaign, which begins in Malaysia on May 20-22.
