> RESULT: OFFiCIAL PRACTICE
Jazeman Jaafar set fastest time towards the end of Official Practice to pip EBM Giga Racing’s Reid Harker by just 0.063s in the final session before tomorrow’s qualifying and first Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS race of the season at Sepang.
The Triple Eight JMR Mercedes-AMG he shares with Prince Abu Ibrahim couldn’t replicate Earl Bamber’s Free Practice pace but did save its best for just before the Am drivers climbed aboard after an hour.
The Malaysian’s time – 2m06.728s – remained untroubled during the subsequent 30-minute Bronze Test that directly followed.
Harker had set two fastest laps in quick succession with two-thirds of the entire session remaining but couldn’t hang on to maintain EBM and Porsche’s perfect start, which also included both of Thursday’s test sessions at Sepang.
Instead, the Kiwi – who joins Setiawan Santoso this year – ended up a second clear of the third place Elf Bar-backed, X Works-run Audi shared by Shaun Thong and David Pun.
This morning’s pace setter, Bamber, finished fourth quickest, albeit 1.6s down on his Free Practice time, while Sandy Stuvik took X Works’ second R8 to fifth. Yogibo’s Ferrari completed the top-six ahead of Triple Eight’s second Mercedes-AMG and the AMAC Porsche.
The two 15-minute qualifying sessions that will decide Saturday and Sunday’s hour-long races begin at 11:27 MYT (GMT +7) tomorrow. Watch them live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
