Result: GT3 Official Practice 2
Okayama produced another incredibly competitive practice session this afternoon when Patrick Pilet headed a top-four covered by one tenth and first 17 separated by less than a second.
The Porsche factory driver, who shares R&B Racing's 911 with Lu Wei, moved to the top with less than 10 minutes remaining by posting the fastest time of the week so far: 1m29.835s.
That was just 0.044s quicker than his Porsche colleague Matteo Cairoli could muster with Absolute Racing and a similar margin faster than Richie Stanaway whose late flyer denied Porsche a 1-2-3 sweep.
Triple Eight JMR's Mercedes-AMG was only 0.011s clear of HubAuto and Alvaro Parente who backed up his Practice 1 pace with the fourth fastest time.
Abu Bakar Ibrahim could, mathematically at least, win the overall drivers' title this weekend. And his stand-in co-driver Michael Grenier - who is subbing for Luca Stolz - suggested the Johor prince will have the pace to feature near the front by lapping a tenth-and-a-half shy of Pilet.
James Yu impressed many en route to a first victory at Motegi and he was again at the sharp end in Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute's R8, which ended the session sixth quickest.
Maezawa Racing's Ferrari driven by Naoki Yokomizo jumped up to eighth behind Climax Racing's Mercedes-AMG late on, while early pace setter Edoardo Liberati ensured KCMG's Honda also featured inside the top-10.
Plus with BMW M Team Studie's Seiji Ara was once again fastest of the Fanatec Japan Cup contingent in 13th.
GT3 qualifying begins at 09:00 JST tomorrow. Watch it live on SRO's GT World YouTube channel.
