> Result: Official Practice 2
Triple Eight JMR’s Mikael Grenier set fastest time in second practice at Sepang to give his championship chasing co-driver Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim a boost ahead of Saturday’s qualifying session and opening race.
The #88 Mercedes-AMG didn’t lap quite as quickly as Patrick Pilet this morning but Grenier’s 2m03.912s – set late in the session – was still 0.373s quicker than Dennis Lind managed for Climax Racing.
The Dane backed up his Official Practice 1 form by again featuring in the top-three, which on this occasion was completed by GH-Team AAI’s BMW driven by Jens Klingmann. Curiously, the M4 and majority of the field lapped considerably slower than this morning.
Mikkel Mac’s Phantom Pro Audi finished as the fastest R8 in fourth, while first practice pace setter Pilet (R&B Racing) was more than a second down on his morning benchmark in fifth. The Porsche he shares with Lu Wei is one of four championship contenders this weekend.
Jesse Krohn rounded out the top-six in AAI’s other BMW.
Further back, points leader Anthony Liu finished ninth courtesy of Dani Juncadella who was one place ahead of Klaus Bachler’s AAS/Absolute Porsche that features title hopeful Vutthikorn Inthraphuvasak.
Fanatec GT Asia’s final qualifying session of the season begins at 10:15 local time tomorrow before the first 60-minute race goes green at 15:45. Both are live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
