> Result: Official Practice 2
Jaylyn Robotham set fastest time in second practice at Chang, but it was close once again at the sharp end.
A rain shower with 10 minutes remaining prevented any further meaningful attempts to topple Climax Racing’s Mercedes-AMG, which set the day’s best time of 1m34.137s with 20 minutes remaining.
That was a tenth quicker than Silver-Am rival Finn Gehrsitz managed in opening practice but still a little way short of Thursday’s testing pace.
Nevertheless, Robotham’s lap was still good enough to beat Marco Mapelli and VSR’s Lamborghini by 0.130s. The Huracan hit the front after 15 minutes when Mapelli replaced team-mate Edoardo Liberati at the top of the timesheets, and was sufficiently quick to finish fastest of the Po-Am entries.
He was pushed hard by Craft-Bamboo’s Maro Engel, who finished second in practice one, and D’station’s Tomonobu Fujii whose Aston Martin also featured in the top five earlier today.
Liberati and VSR’s second Lamborghini slipped to fifth in the final classification, while 5ZIGEN’s Nissan rounded out the top six ahead of Craft-Bamboo’s second Mercedes-AMG and the first Porsche shared by Silver-Am championship leaders Yuan Bo and Leo Ye Hongli.
Sepang winners Adderly Fong and Franky Cheng topped the Silver class in 11th overall but were also one of 14 crews to set a time within one second of Robotham’s.
Further back, The Spirit of FFF Racing’s Audi set the Am class pace.
Qualifying takes place at 11:00 tomorrow morning before the first of this weekend’s 60-minute races goes green four hours later. Watch both live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
