Chang: Yu and Stolz seal poles in Chang’s super tight qualifying sessions

> Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute and Triple Eight JMR bag top spot
> Yu beats Ogawa by 0.014s; 0.1s covers Q2’s top three
> Results: Qualifying 1 | Qualifying 2

James Yu and Luca Stolz topped two incredibly close qualifying sessions at Chang International Circuit this morning ahead of Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS’s third and fourth rounds.

Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute’s R8 set consecutive fastest times in Q1 to establish a one-second advantage but was gradually pegged back before sealing pole by just 0.014s from Ryo Ogawa and LMcorsa’s Ferrari.

Silver drivers predictably filled the top positions – Franky Cheng completed the top three in FAW’s Audi – but there were two Ams in the first five thanks to Huang Ruo Han (Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute) and Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim (Triple Eight JMR).

Silver-Am pole went to the class’ championship leader Yuan Bo (Origine Motorsport), while Hiroshi Hamaguchi sealed Am top spot for The Spirit of FFF Racing.

One second covered the first 12, but that was nothing compared to Q2 in which the same margin separated a top 17 led by Triple Eight JMR’s Mercedes-AMG. The manufacturer also finished second and third courtesy of Ralf Aron (Climax Racing) and Maro Engel (Craft-Bamboo), while 5ZIGEN’s Nissan took the Silver-Am spoils in an excellent fourth overall thanks to Yu Kanamaru.

Akash Nandy’s Audi was the quickest Silver entry, and Ben Porter took Am honours for AMAC Motorsport.
