> Result: Official Practice 1
Only two cars set lap times in Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS’s opening practice session at Fuji where accidents and heavy rain prevented any meaningful running.
Japan Cup’s morning session was also wet but ran for the full hour without incident. Conditions deteriorated thereafter, though, which prompted Race Control to officially end Fanatec GT Asia’s session 10 minutes early.
The session was originally stopped after 15 minutes when Tanart Sathienthirakul’s Absolute Porsche hit the barriers exiting Turn 2. The resulting clear up operation lasted another quarter-hour, by which point track conditions had deteriorated further. No running took place thereafter.
Sathienthirakul was by no means Turn 2’s only victim, however. Jules Gounon also clipped the wall there moments earlier but managed to limp Climax’s Mercedes-AMG – which sustained substantial right-rear damage – back to the pits.
Just two cars completed a lap time. Team KRC’s debutant Maxime Oosten officially topped his first-ever Fanatec GT Asia session with a lap of 2m06.134s. That was almost 30 quicker than Elegant Racing’s Liu Lic Ka.
Weather permitting, second practice is scheduled to begin at 16:15 JST.
