Luo Kailuo and Ben Green both bagged back-to-back GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS pole positions at Fuji Speedway after topping Q1 and Q2, respectively.
Their Harmony Ferrari and Johor Racing Corvette also started up front last time out at Chang where the latter then converted qualifying success into victory. He and championship-leading team-mate Prince Jefri Ibrahim will be hoping for more of the same tomorrow.
But all eyes will be on Luo this afternoon when his 296 GT3 heads a Chinese top three featuring Silver rival Cheng Congfu (FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom) and Bob Yuan (Origine Motorsport) who is well placed to get his overall championship challenge back on track following a frustrating outing in Thailand.
Luo looked imperious en route to pole by 0.5s over Cheng after setting consecutive fastest laps. The gap initially stood at one second before the Audi driver improved, but Harmony’s Ferrari was never under serious threat.
Yuan – fresh from his CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa class win – set the fastest Am time from JMR’s Ibrahim brothers Abu Bakar and Jefri, while another title contender – Anthony Liu – slotted Phantom’s Porsche into sixth.
Silver-Am pole and seventh overall went to Absolute Corse’s Huang Ruohan, and Am spoils went the way of Ben Porter’s AMAC Porsche.
