> Berrenberg sets Am pace in P4
> Result: Greater Bay Area GT Cup Qualifying
Reigning SRO GT Cup champion Han Lichao will share the Greater Bay Area GT Cup front row with Macau legend Darryl O’Young on Sunday morning when the latter lines up for his final-ever motor race.
The Toyota Supra set two laps quick enough for pole during the second half of a 30-minute session interrupted by three red flag periods, the last of which brought proceedings to an early end.
Han had the second of those stoppages to partly thank for his pole position. The early pace setter was first pushed down to second by O’Young’s Craft-Bamboo Mercedes-AMG with nine minutes gone and then fell to fourth after slowing on track, which required time in the pits.
But Lao Kim Hou’s accident gave the TGR China squad enough time to fix the issue and send Han back out when qualifying resumed for a second time. His first effort was 0.010s faster than O’Young’s previous pole time before 2m31.393s sealed P1 by 0.339s.
O’Young also had his moments of uncertainty, first by swiping the wall and then running deep into Lisboa. But his early lap was sufficiently fast to beat Lu Wenlong’s Team Pegasus Lotus – which was on course to improve before the final red flag – by just under two tenths.
SRO GT Cup’s inaugural Am champion Moritz Berrenberg sealed another class pole in fourth overall aboard W&S Motorsport’s Porsche, while Kao Tzu Lung and Ian Leong rounded out the top six.
As well as Lao’s accident, the two additional stoppages were caused by Brian Lia’s Ginetta stopping at pit exit just after the session began and the McLaren of Ip Un Hou finding the barrier at Moorish.
SRO GT Cup’s season finale from Macau is live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel this Sunday at 08:00 local time (GMT +8).
